Planning Commission

The Planning Commission advises the City Council on land use and development matters, including zoning changes, subdivision plats, and long-range planning. Its role is to help guide orderly growth that aligns with the City’s comprehensive plan and community goals.

Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA)

The Board of Zoning Appeals reviews zoning-related appeals, variance requests, and special exceptions. The Board ensures zoning regulations are applied fairly while providing relief when strict enforcement would create unnecessary hardship.

Codes Enforcement

Codes Enforcement is responsible for ensuring compliance with the City’s codes and ordinances related to building safety, property maintenance, zoning, and public health. The department works to protect the safety and quality of life of the community through inspections, enforcement actions, and education.

Building Inspector

The Building Inspector is responsible for enforcing building codes and construction standards to ensure structures are safe and compliant with applicable laws. Duties include reviewing permits, conducting inspections, and working with property owners and contractors to promote safe, code-compliant development.

The Rocky Top Regional Planning Commission holds its regular meetings at 5:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at City Hall.
Special meetings may be scheduled with the Chairman’s approval and payment of the required fee.

Board of Zoning and Appeals meet at 5:00 on the third Tuesday of the month at City Hall.

The DEADLINE for Subdivision Review and Variance Requests is the third Tuesday of the month prior to the meeting being held (approximately 1 month before the next regularly scheduled meeting).

The DEADLINE for submission of items to be placed on the agenda is the second Tuesday of each month or 7 days prior to the meeting.
